10 Indoor Activities for Kiddos

It’s cold outside–really cold. And it seems like whatever artic clothing we have on is just not enough to keep the wind and frigid temperature from creeping underneath our clothing. While playing in the snow is fun (for a couple hours until that dreaded numb feeling arrives) your kiddos have probably spent most of their time indoors lately. If they’re going stir crazy, here are some great activities, inspired by our Kid Experts, that will keep your kids occupied while learning and having fun at the same time!

Develop a Science Experiment

There are so many safe experiments kids can create at home! Whether they’re interested in creating a discovery bottle, erupting volcano, or their own slime, these experiments will have your kiddos learning as they play!

Create Polaroid Art

Own a polaroid camera, some construction paper, and a few crayons? Get creative! Kiddos can take different snapshots to use to decorate a card and begin their own mini-masterpiece around it. Check out how Kid Expert Sarah T creates this.

Put Together a Jam Band

If your kiddo owns a few musical instruments, invite some of their friends over for a playdate to form a band. Ukulele player, drummer, singer– check! We suggest doing the rock ‘n’ roll ABCs.

Bake and Decorate Cupcakes

Baking is a fun activity for kids and this one combines food with art. Whether your kids want the colors of the rainbow or specific words on their cupcakes, it’s easy to do with colored icing! If you’re the type of person who burns water, don’t fret–there’s a Kid Expert for this.

Record A Home Video

Do you own an iPhone? (Rhetorical question). We’re pretty sure your kiddo knows how to use it better than you do! Recording a video is easy; it’s the planning that takes time. What does your little one like to do? Maybe they want to become Princess Elsa and sing Disney songs like Christina M or create new rap beats like Noam S. Help them on their way to stardom by recording their talents!

Practice a New Dance

There are so many videos on YouTube now that you can watch, learn, and perform just about any dance moves out there with your kids. Keep them focused by asking them to learn from you. Check out our very own Bollywood Dancer, Irish Step Dancer, and Tap Dancer for help; or help your kiddo learn moves by booking a former Rockette!

Borrow and Learn a New Board Game

Only have a couple board games in your house that your kids have mastered and become bored of (no pun intended)? Swap games with a friend or neighbor and keep your kiddo intrigued this winter. Board games are great because they keep kids occupied while requiring them to use their analytical skills. Great one to try: chess. Just ask Kid Expert Luke B!

Write and Perform a Puppet Show

Ask your kiddos to get creative! Do they like animals, princesses, dragons, or kings? Buy their favorite puppets and ask them to create their own show for you. Check out this original called ‘Moo Nork.’

Animate Storytime

Books are always more fun when read aloud, especially in different accents. If your kiddos love Harry Potter, have them practice their British accents as they transform into Hermione or Harry. Or take it a step further and ask them to dress up as the characters like this.

Organize a Themed Tea Party

Because who doesn’t love a tea party? We do.
