Hi, Sarah! Where are you from and what brought you to NYC?
Hello, hello … I am a native Virginian but (old) New York has forever been in my heart.
How long have you been working with kids?
A little over 6 years now.
When you’re booked for a Curated Care session, what is your process in terms of preparation/items you bring?
My imagination, instant Polaroid, journal, and of course my experimental bag of goodies!
You ran an Art Camp last summer with Curated Care. Can you tell us what kind of activities you created for sessions?
Optical art projects, newspaper and watercolour pieces, and blow painting intertwined with scream art. Also watercolor activities – where we mixed mediums to create petals from different sources of paper, painted over them and then cut them to make flowers. Polaroid portraits are always involved in the work to document the entire process.
What would you say is the value of hiring a Kid Expert versus a regular babysitter?
The gradual instillment of creativity that is shared and nurtured during each session.
What has been the most rewarding part of being a Kid Expert at Curated Care? Can you share a personal story?
The bonds, trust, and friendships that are built. I have a young gal by the name of Peyton whom I cherish as my own — every session feels as if we’re on some adventure to another world. You can see the foundation of love her parents have instilled in her and to be a part of any kind of creative push is a blessing to me.
Can you tell us a little bit about a cool upcoming project that you’re working on right now?
An experimental film with Woodson Legrand and Jessica Walker who is an Assistant Professor of Integrated Design at Parsons. It will be an interesting project to collaborate on!
