Hi Dolly! Where are you from and what brought you to NYC?
I am originally from India! My dad’s job transfer brought us to the US, and my passion for acting had me taking classes in the Big Apple. There was no looking back after that!
How did you get into Bollywood Dance? Can you share a childhood story?
As a child, I was FASCINATED with Bollywood! (Still am.) I knew I wanted to be a Bollywood actress for as long as I can remember. Every Bollywood movie is like a musical because it is filled with songs and dance pieces. When I moved to America, I found out there’s a Bollywood performance school 10 minutes from my house! I joined at age 13 and am still with the school 13 years later.
You recently had a Bollywood Curated Care Experience on the site and booked almost a dozen sessions. How did they go?
Really good! I’d really like to commend the parents. Their interest in Bollywood has given me a chance to be able to teach what I love. We had LOTS of fun learning exciting songs and dance moves like hip-hop, bhangra, jazz, and Indian semi-classical forms! What makes me really happy is by the end of the session the kids were singing the signature lyrics of the songs and it’s such a great feeling to know that I’ve been a tiny part in spreading the smallest bit of knowledge about my culture, which I am so proud of!
What do you think is the benefit of hiring a Kid Expert vs a traditional babysitter?
I think a child connects with a Kid Expert in so much of a better way than they would with a babysitter. If the child happens to like the activity that they are learning through a Kid Expert, they connect on a bigger level which means the bonding is a lot stronger!
What are you most looking forward to in the future?
Following my passion to become an actress! I’m excited to see how this year unfolds in terms of my acting journey!
